Position Summary
The Medical Transcriptionist listens to voice recordings that physicians and other health professionals make and converts them into
written reports. This individual interprets medical terminology and abbreviations in preparing patients medical histories, discharge
summaries, and other documents.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
 Relates well and cooperatively with other employees.
 Maintains a monthly 2.0% error rate or below.
 Accurately transcribes 150 lines an hour.
 Transcribes verbatim.
 Transcribes History and Physicals, operative reports, clinical resumes, consultations, cardiology reports, sexual assault reports,
office practice documents, and miscellaneous reports timely and accurately as assigned.
 Maintains accurate documentation as required.
 Maintains knowledge of current departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
 Maintains current medical terminology knowledge.
 Attends inservices and department meetings as required.
? Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state
and local standards.
? Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Other Related Functions
? Assists with answering telephones and processing as needed.
? Assumes the responsibility for professional growth and development
Qualifications
Education/Training
? High school graduate or equivalent.
? Medical terminology course required.
? Minimum Of 50 Wpm Typing Required.
Licensure/Certification
None.
Experience
? Six (6) months acute care hospital transcription experience, or practice management experience required.
