Position Overview:The Society of Illustrators is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Part-Time Bookkeeper to join our team in person, three days a week. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, and supporting general accounting functions. The ideal candidate has experience with bookkeeping, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage financial tasks efficiently. This position requires a reliable and proactive individual who can work independently while supporting the organization?s financial operations.Key Responsibilities:Financial Record Keeping:Enter financial transactions into the accounting system (?NorthStar Technologies?), including, cash receipts & cash disbursements, income and expenses related to events, competitions, donations, grants, and other revenue sources.Maintain accurate records of accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely payment and invoicing.Prepare bank depositsMaintain vendor accountsProcess bimonthly payroll and other payroll related functionsPerform other duties delegated by the Executive Director and Controller Financial Reporting/Month end:Prepare bank reconciliationsInput month end journal entriesRecord credit card transactionsReconcile AR and A/P control accounts to detail agingsFile quarterly sales tax returnsAssist Controller in the preparation of the month end financial statements Accounts Payable:Process vendor invoices accurately and in a timely manner, ensuring adherence to organizational policies and procedures; prepare and issue payments via checks as scheduled. Audit Preparation and Compliance:Assist Controller with year-end audit and tax filingEnsure compliance with all relevant accounting standards and regulations. Financial Administration:Maintain orderly financial filing systems, both electronic and physical.Provide support for financial inquiries from Board members, donors, and vendors. Qualifications:Proven experience as a Bookkeeper or in a similar role is preferred.Strong knowledge of double entry bookkeeping principles and practices.Familiarity with general ledger reconciliation and balance sheet reconciliation processes.Understanding of financial concepts and nonprofit accounting practices is a plus.Excellent attention to detail accuracy in data entry and financial reporting.Attentive to detail and strong organizational skills Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.Understanding of non-profit financial management principles and practices.Ability to work collaboratively with other accounting and administrative professionals.Additional Considerations:Applicants must have valid authorization to work in the U.S. without the need for current or future employer sponsorship for a visa.All candidates are subject to a background check as part of the hiring process.This is a part-time role (25 hours per week) that requires the Bookkeeper to be in the office three days per week. The Society of Illustrators? building does not have an elevator, and the ability to walk stairs is required for this position.
