Associate/Full Professor and Department Chair of Teacher Education

The Department of Teacher Education is seeking applicants for the position of Department Chair.

The Department Chair provides exemplary leadership of the department by collaborating with faculty, staff, students, and alumni to administer and direct the department?s developmental, financial, operational, and personnel elements in a manner that is reflective of the Core Values of Angelo State University and the mission of the College of Education.

Job Duties
? Prepare and monitor departmental budgets for operations, personnel, contracts, and sponsored projects.
? Serve as the instructional leader of the department in a professional manner in all activities.
? Participate in official university functions as required by the President, Provost, or Dean (e.g., commencement, convocation, faculty in-service, etc.).
? Participate in scholarly and service activities appropriate to your discipline and position.
? Serve as a liaison with state, federal, and national agencies (e.g., Texas Education Agency, Board of Regents, etc.) for matters related to teacher preparation.
? Provide leadership for all departmental programs and ensure that curriculum, instruction, assessment (collection and interpretation of data for state and national accreditation standards) and research are innovative, of the highest quality, and aligned with college and university strategic plans.
? Serve on college and university committees, as appropriate to the position.
? Acknowledge and comply with federal and state laws and Angelo State University regulations, policies, and practices.
? Oversee departmental administrative processes such as staffing courses, maintaining departmental budget, supervising departmental staff, class schedule build, and the day-to-day operations of the department.
? Maintain a collegial relationship with peers and colleagues throughout the college and university.
? Promote ongoing faculty development and engage in productive evaluation of faculty.
? Cultivate and maintain a positive, student-oriented, and caring academic atmosphere.
? Maintain confidentiality in accordance with federal laws and program policy.
? Teach and advise students in a manner that promotes academic excellence and well-being.

Minimum Qualifications
? An earned doctorate in Education (e.g., teaching, leadership, etc.) or a related discipline from an accredited institution.
? Record of teaching, scholarship, and service that would merit appointment and subsequent tenure as an associate or full professor

Preferred Qualifications
? Experience (minimum, 2 years) in a leadership role aligned with academic administration, including program director, associate/assistant department chair/head, department chair/head, or related experience.
? Recent experience teaching/administration in a PK-12 public school (last five years).
? Posses a working knowledge of Texas Administrative Code and agencies that govern Texas teacher preparation (THECB & TEA).
? Evidence of success in outreach initiatives/activities with entities external to the university.
? Scholarship or training that demonstrates an understanding of effective online courses and instruction
? Willingness engage in innovative approaches to teacher preparation, such as supporting yearlong residencies.
? Demonstrated success in grant writing.
