About the position

The Senior Collections Representative (SCR) is responsible for managing billing and collections processes within the Patient Financial Services department at UCSF. This role involves gathering necessary information for billing, following up on accounts, resolving claim rejections, and ensuring compliance with payer guidelines. The SCR will utilize various databases and applications to analyze information and maintain communication with insurance representatives, hospital departments, and patients. The position requires a strong understanding of hospital billing practices and the ability to work both onsite and remotely.

Responsibilities
• Manage billing and collections processes for patient accounts.

• Gather and secure information needed for billing and payment of accounts.
,
• Maintain deficiency lists to obtain missing documents from internal or external entities.
,
• Resolve claim rejections and package claims for billing.
,
• Perform proactive follow-up with payers and other entities to secure payment.
,
• Utilize multiple databases and applications to analyze information and documents received.
,
• Communicate frequently with insurance company representatives and hospital departments.

Requirements
• High School Diploma or GED.
,
• Six or more years of experience in a hospital billing office environment.
,
• Excellent knowledge of hospital billing and collections, including packaged claims and contract terms.
,
• Strong analytical and organizational skills.
,
• Proficient in MS Office and other office equipment operation.
,
• Proactive account resolution skills with a positive work ethic.
,
• Ability to follow directions and maintain high attention to detail.
,
• Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves
• Experience with medical terminology.
,
• Knowledge of ICD, CPT4, HCPCS, and DRG coding.
,
• Understanding of HIPAA rules and regulations.
