POSITION SUMMARY: The ESL Adult Education teacher will provide English language instruction to qualifying, registered ESL adults through the APS Adult Education Department. There will be in-person, grant-funded adult classes with pre and post testing requirements. The ESL teacher will collaborate with all adult education faculty and staff to ensure language instruction meets District and State Adult Education guidelines and will report to the adult education Director and Supervisor. This ESL teaching position is hourly and may provide instruction at varying locations. Classes will be in the evening. EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS: ? Valid State of Michigan Teacher Certification required ? ESL and Language Arts (K-5 or 6-12) endorsements preferred ? Minimum 1- year experience teaching ESL preferred with knowledge of adult learner teaching strategies ? Ability to communicate effectively with staff members, students, and public ? Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and his/her designee may find appropriate and acceptable PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: These duties and responsibilities are judged to be "essential functions" in terms of the Americans With Disabilities Act or ADA ? Plan, organize and provide instruction in English to non-English speaking adult language learners ? Able to work autonomously / independently with some direction ? Participate in registration and enrollment process including administering the CASAS assessment ? Maintain accurate records including daily attendance ? Attend regular adult education staff meetings ?
