Job title: Academic Success Advisor Company: Arizona State University Job description : Department Name New College Advising Job Description The New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences at ASU is seeking a motivated individual to join our Online student advising team at the West campus. Utilizing holistic academic advising and support strategies, this position will support undergraduate students in making timely progress toward a degree. They will work as part of a team to increase student retention and graduation. Requisition ID 94666BR Working Environment Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree AND one (1) year or more previous experience in one or more of the following: advising, student recruitment/retention or related student services utilizing a proactive and innovative approach which results in demonstrated outcomes in retention, graduation, and academic planning; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. Category 02 VP Code PROVOST/WEST CAMPUS Scope of Search Open Desired Qualifications Direct academic advising experience with undergraduate student populations. Demonstrated knowledge of principles, practices, procedures and methods of evidence-based, academic advising strategies. Evidence of a Master's degree in counseling, higher education, or closely related field from a regionally-accredited college or university. Demonstrated knowledge of ASU's academic structure, programs, colleges, departments and organization. Experience in interpreting student needs and determining when referral to other University resources is appropriate. Experience in demonstrating sensitivity to needs of a diverse student population. Evidence of effective communication. Experience in designing presentation materials and giving oral presentations in group settings. Experience in applying the principles, techniques and methods of teamwork, compromise and collaboration to produce desired outcomes. Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with peers, faculty, students, administration and other interested parties. Experience in rapidly adapting and effectively utilize new technology, practices, policies and methods. Experience with the use of internet-based research tools and Microsoft Office computer applications. Close Date 07-September-2023 Grant Funded Position This is not a grant funded position and is not contingent on future grant funding. Full-Time/Part-Time Full-Time Essential Duties Provides individual and group academic advising and/or interacts with students in support of academic success. Works closely and collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff to support academic success. Monitors student academic progress and program effectiveness using a variety of technology-based tools (such as degree progress, customer relationship management, and analytics software/tools), and the application of retention focused strategies, and relevant advising/student development/engagement theories. Maintains an openness to new and developing tools utilized across the University to aid in student success and excellent service. Able to learn and use multiple systems at same time (such as student record databases, customer relationship management systems, degree progress tools, appointment systems, analytics software/tools). Shares feedback and insight regarding technology systems and their daily use. Utilizes collegial interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively in person, writing, and by phone; establishes and maintains effective professional working relationships. Proactively monitors student academic performance; addresses, responds to, and works to resolve student concerns, questions, or issues; collaborates closely with students to identify all academic options including, but not limited to: degrees, tutoring, counseling, career services, success coaches, extracurricular activities, study abroad program(s), research, and internships; supports and provides counsel to students in selection of options best suited to the student's goals, interests, and skills. Acts as a college/department/school representative to current and prospective students, faculty, staff, and external groups on issues related to academic success; attends and/or presents at orientation or recruiting events/activities/workshops. Works to ensure ongoing satisfaction for students with their program and degree progress, provides follow up to ensure satisfaction with and effectiveness of services, and utilizes a variety of university data and programmatic direction to promote student academic success. Regularly monitors assessment resources to refine and build effective practices. Works collaboratively and collegially with academic unit and services throughout the university to facilitate comprehensive student support. Possesses a clear understanding of the larger picture of the college and/or departmental processes and expectations around the utilization of these tools and how they impact student experience. Escalates/redirects urgent or conflicting requests. Recognizes complex issues and alerts leadership; may provide suggestions in response. Assists with the coordination of academic success program or advising policy development and implementation. As required, act as a course instructor/resource for faculty. Other duties as assigned. Salary Range $50,000 - $52,000 per year, DOE Instructions to Application deadline is 3:00PM Arizona time on the date indicated.
