Salary Information Department Summary The Department of Educational Psychology is one of four departments in the College of Education. The College offers 12 bachelor's degrees, 19 master's and 15 doctoral concentrations with over 100 faculty that provide the training and field experience needed to teach people how to live more productive lives. The Department of Educational Psychology currently offers a BS degree and two master's degrees in educational psychology and special Education. Two PhDs are offered, one in Educational Psychology, and one in Special Education. The Educational Psychology PhD program is presently organized around four concentrations: (a) Research Methodology, Measurement, & Statistics, (b) Human Development & Family Science, © Gifted and Talented Education, and (d) Learning Sciences. In addition, the Educational Psychology PhD supports concentrations in (d) Psychosocial Aspects of Sport, and (e) Sport Pedagogy and Motor Behavior in the Department of Kinesiology, Health Promotion and Recreation. UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba. Position Summary The Department of Educational Psychology at the University of North Texas (UNT) seeks a clinical assistant professor with expertise in gifted and talented education to serve as the Director of the Office for Giftedness, Talent Development, and Creativity. Additional duties include teaching undergraduate and graduate student courses in gifted and talented education and/or educational psychology, and supporting proposals for external funding to support the work of the Office. This is a non-tenure track, multi-year appointment to start Fall 2024 and renewed annually during an initial period pending satisfactory performance evaluation. Multi-year contracts are possible following this initial period. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and background. The successful candidate will be responsible for expanding the Office work by developing and directing summer programs, Saturday enrichment classes, professional development opportunities for local educators, and information sessions for parents in the community. As such, the successful candidate should possess strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills to facilitate program development, management, and implementation. The teaching role may consist of teaching undergraduate or graduate courses in gifted and talented education and/or educational psychology. These courses could be in traditional or online formats and may be on the UNT campus or at satellite locations. Finally, the faculty member may participate in the development of the program and department through committee and service opportunities. Workload will be equitably balanced, with teaching and departmental responsibilities increased at times when the work of the Office is lighter, and vice-versa. This appointment will be based on a 9-month academic year, but the employee will be paid at the same monthly rate for all summer months worked. Minimum Qualifications The candidate must hold a doctorate in Education, Educational Psychology, Gifted and Talented Education, or a closely related field. ABD candidates will be considered as long as the doctorate is successfully defended prior to the start date. Preferred Qualifications Preference will be given to candidates with (1) experience working with a center supporting gifted and talented students, (2) teaching in higher education at the undergraduate or graduate level, and (3) experience managing projects and administrative tasks, such as externally funded research and/or developing and leading student-centered programming.
