For defense programs, AEC provides a wide range of products including complete structural assemblies, flight critical components, primary and secondary structural elements for platforms such as the F-35 Lightning II, the CH-53K Heavy-lift Helicopter and the Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile (JASSM).AEC is committed to delivering high-quality, economical composite solutions to our customers. Significant investment in infrastructure and automation ensures AEC is positioned to maximize that value, offering the right processes to meet our customer’s needs.This position is accountable for the equipment specification, qualification, and reliability which supports the manufacturing of parts for aerospace structural applications.Primary Responsibilities:
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment related issues pertaining to automated fiber placement (AFP) machines, automated tape layer (ATL) machines, braiding machines, filament winders, non-destructive inspection/testing (NDI/NDT) machines, autoclaves, ovens, pattern cutters, CNC machining centers, and industrial robot systems.
  • Work with Maintenance and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to expedite repairs and drive to Root Cause and Corrective Actions (RCCA) that prevent recurrence of breakdowns.
  • Define plans to support, define, or improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), Preventive Maintenance (PM), Predictive Maintenance (PdM), Remaining Useful Life (RUL), equipment reliability/availability, obsolescence, spare parts identification, and equipment qualification.
  • Use advanced tools such as Statistical Process Control (SPC), IoT remote sensor monitoring, Renishaw Ballbar, vibration analysis, infrared thermography, power analysis, Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), and Machine Learning to monitor and evaluate equipment performance.
  • Manage capital projects and/or define Scope of Work (SOW) and specifications for new equipment in accordance with Albany’s project management policy.
  • Initiate process improvements focused on safety, cycle time reduction, machine efficiency, and defect reduction in support of plant OEE goals.
  • Generate and maintain software and equipment support documents such as executive software, PLC software, servo motor/drive configuration, Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), and risk matrix.
Requirements:Working ConditionsIndoor production environment, duties performed indoors, adequate lighting and comfortable temperatures. Occasional exposure to moderate noise and machinery with mechanical moving parts. Ability to work 24/7 schedule and be available as business situations required, Travel may be required.Qualifications:
  • Master of Science degree and 6+ years of experience in designated Engineering or related field
  • Bachelor of Science degree and 8+ years of experience in designated Engineering or related field
  • Or Associate of Science degree and 10+ years of experience in designated Engineering or related field
  • Or 12+ years of experience in designated Engineering or related field
Preferred Additional Skills:
  • RCCA, SPC, PFMEA, Control Plans, Mistake Proofing, Design for Human Factors, Design of Experiments (DOE), LSS, DMAIC, DFSS, DFx
  • Ability to quickly learn and program software systems
  • Knowledge of various Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Human Machine Interfaces (HMI), servo motors and drives.
  • Experience with Aveva/OSIsoft PI System a plus
  • Experience with Siemens 840D controls and Brownfield Connector a plus
  • Experience with Fives CM100 controls a plus
  • Experience with Delta Tau motion controls a plus
  • Experience with Advantive/InfinityQS Proficient SPC a plus
  • Experience with training technicians in the correct techniques for operating equipment
  • Knowledge of standards for machine accuracy and performance testing ASTM B5.54 and/or ISO 230 a plus
  • Knowledge of standards for robotic performance and testing per ISO 9283:1998 and/or ANSI/RIA R15.05
  • Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA 70
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Knowledge of composite materials a plus
  • Working in or leading a multi-disciplined team
  • LSS Green Belt / Black Belt Certified a plus
  • Experience in SAP ERP and Windchill PLM a plus
  • Aerospace manufacturing a plus
