Forest Products Sustainability & Engagement Manager - Remote position

Remote, USA Full-time Posted 2025-05-22

Deadline: 19th June 2025

About Earthworm

With most of our staff operating directly on the ground where the issues are, we work with our mem-bers and partners to make value chains an engine of prosperity for communities and ecosystems.

We see a world where forests are a boundless source of materials and a home for biodiversity; com-munities see their rights respected and have opportunities to develop; workers are seen as productive partners, and agriculture becomes the instrument to feed a hungry planet and keep our climate stable.

Your Mission

As a Forest Products Sustainability & Engagement Manager, you will be primarely responsible for:
  • Supporting the implementation of forest supply chain and field programs in the US Southeast and Canada
  • Leading and coordinating engagement with pulp, paper, and packaging suppliers and mills in the US Southeast and Canada on behalf of Earthworm Member companies and packaging buyers, building strong relationships and driving strategies that create incentives for improved ecological and social outcomes in forest product supply chains
  • Monitoring and supporting forest-related grievance processes to identify connections with Earthworm Members’ supply chains, and collaborate with field staff and partners to develop resolution strategies
  • Supporting traceability data collection with downstream consumer goods companies and their suppliers and supporting the development of supply chain analyses that assess progress against sustainability commitments and Key Performance Indicators (e.g., Deforestation and Conversion-Free (DCF) targets)
  • Conducting desktop research and contribute to field reporting to inform ongoing programs and supplier engagement activities
  • Collaborating closely with technical solution leads and global Supply Chain Transformation Managers to ensure strategic alignment across member and supplier engagement strategies
  • Providing expertise in pulp and paper supply chains, sustainable procurement, and No-Deforestation topics
  • Monitoring program progress, ensure deliverables align with work plans and budgets, and provide technical support as needed
  • Collaborating with coalitions and industry peers to align on approaches and propose innovative solutions to supply chain challenges.

Your Profile

You bring technical knowledge of pulp, paper, and packaging products and supply chains, along with a deep passion for leveraging supply chain solutions to drive meaningful environmental and social outcomes.

You are logical and implementation-oriented, yet driven by a desire to push beyond conventional sustainability assurance mechanisms to effect lasting ecological and social change. You excel at breaking down complex projects into actionable workplans and are highly organized, with strong skills in creating and maintaining effective project management systems. You have experience coordinating multiple workstreams and timelines simultaneously.

In addition to strong data and analytical skills, you are a strategic thinker who can connect data-driven insights to member strategies and Earthworm’s broader goals.

Your background in sustainability within forest product supply chains makes you a valuable asset to any team. You bring experience in addressing both social issues (e.g., Indigenous rights, land tenure) and ecological challenges (e.g., forest degradation, land conversion, high conservation values), and have working knowledge of forest certification systems and international forest industry commitments.

You are proactive, systems-oriented, and skilled at identifying key issues, risks, and potential solutions.
