We are accepting CVs for entry to mid-level Research Assistants to provide research support on upcoming contracts. The successful candidate will support a team of policy researchers and assist them in carrying out a research agenda that meets project goals. McCO has a specific need for a Research Assistant to support research on East Asia/PRC issues, however we are accepting applications from candidates with other thematic interests and regional expertise.
Requirements
Reporting to the Senior Researcher/Principal Investigator, the successful candidate will be expected to use a wide degree of experience, resourcefulness, creativity, and judgement to work with the team to plan and accomplish organizational objectives related to the research support. Specific duties include but may not necessarily be limited to the following:
Duties & Requirements: ? Conduct literature reviews and collect and analyze data; ? Assist in identifying relevant sources as instructed by research supervisor; ? Assist in recruiting and/or interviewing subjects; ? Prepare interview questions and maintain accurate records of interviews, safeguarding the confidentiality of subjects, as necessary; ? Summarizing and synthesizing interview data; ? Provide ready access to all experimental data for the researcher supervisor; ? Request or acquire equipment or supplies necessary for the project; ? Manage and respond to project related email; ? Prepare other articles, reports, and presentations; ? Monitor the project budget; ? Basic/light IT support (assisting Researchers with any software related needs); ? Participate in other organization-wide activities, meetings, and trainings; and ? Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications & Previous Experience:
? BA or MA in international relations, political science, public policy, or related field;
? Immediate need for a candidate with academic focus, thesis or dissertation on East Asia or the PRC highly desired;
? At least 2 years of relevant academic or related to the field of with understanding of basic research and teaching assistant duties;
? Past Experience as a research assistant in an academic setting, ideally working on East Asian and PRC politics or closely related topics;
? Experience with State Department, Defense Department, and/or government contracting is highly desirable;
? Familiarity and comfortability navigating professional academic journals, and being able to quickly and effectively find target material;
? Administrative and IT skills: experienced user of Microsoft Office in particular Word and Excel, familiarity with SPSS or other specialized software or datasets;
? Superior written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills, with advanced copyediting skills in English;
? Strong attention to detail with emphasis on quality and accuracy;
? Discretion and the ability to work with sensitive, confidential information;
? Ability to take ownership of tasks and work independently, managing deadlines and prioritizing between multiple tasks;
? Possess and demonstrate excellent judgment and reliability;
? Team player, with a positive, flexible, can-do attitude;
? Ability to pass background check.
