Transportation Engineer II (B25): $69,572 - $114,099 annually

Transportation Engineer III (B26): $76,530 - $129,430 annually

Transportation Engineer IV (B27): $84,182 - $142,374 annually

Transportation Engineer V (B28): $92,600 - $156,612 annually

Position Description

Transportation Engineer I: Performs transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.

Transportation Engineer II: Performs complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor..

Transportation Engineer III: Performs advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.

Transportation Engineer IV: Performs highly advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.

Transportation Engineer V: Performs highly advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations, maintenance and/or research. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.

Essential Duties

Transportation Engineer I Duties include:
? Assists in overseeing contracts, issuing work orders and monitoring construction schedules and contractor payments and job progress on construction projects.
? Assists in overseeing district laboratory operations and monitoring material testing requirements and results for compliance with specifications.
? Drives to project locations to make on-site engineering reviews, analyses, tests and to provide technical support.
? Makes presentations and represents TxDOT.
? Monitors consultants' progress and work quality; checks invoices and associated documents; prepares supplemental agreements.
? Performs and coordinates the review and processing of Plans, Specifications & Estimates (PS&E) submission, special specifications or special provisions.
? Resolves differences between contractors and inspectors.
? Uses department's enterprise Critical Path Method (CPM) schedule and resource management tool to accomplish scheduling and resource management of transportation projects.
? Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Transportation Engineer II Duties include:
? Assists Area Engineers with construction contract administration matters.

Transportation Engineer III Duties include:
? Performs data collection, analyses, forecasts and plan development.
? Verifies project eligibility and assists with ranking projects and funding.

Transportation Engineer IV Duties include:
? Analyzes and assists in the resolution of contract problems and disputes.
? Leads/Trains professional and administrative staff.

Transportation Engineer V Duties include:
? Assists Project Managers to establish realistic and achievable schedule baselines for advanced and highly complex projects.
? Coordinates and monitors assigned projects/programs/plans.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.

Experience:

Transportation Engineer I - 4 years*

Transportation Engineer II - 5 years*

Transportation Engineer III - 6 years*

Transportation Engineer IV - 7 years*

Transportation Engineer V - 8 years*
? Experience must be in engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis . Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Licenses and Certifications:
? Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
? Licensed Prof Engineer*
? Professional engineers licensed in another state in the United States, but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
? Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions
? Subject to extreme cold and heat; below 32 and above 100 degrees for more than one hour
? Subject or noise and vibration
? Required to wear protective gear - respirator, hard hat, or other device
? Light work: Lift up to 20lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs
? Balancing - walking, standing, crouching on various surfaces without falling
? Crouching - bending body downward and forward by bending leg(s) and spine
? Standing - prolonged periods of time
? Walking - moving on foot to accomplish tasks: long distance/from one work site to another
? Fingering - picking, pinching, typing; working primarily with fingers rather than whole hand
? Talking - expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words
? Close Visual Acuity - work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
? Visual Acuity - operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment
