TITLE: Mechanic - Transportation
QUALIFICATIONS: ? High school diploma or equivalent. ? At least four years job related experience related to automotive and or heavy truck or bus mechanical repair experience in making necessary repairs to the school bus fleet, maintenance vehicles, and other gas or diesel equipment. ? CDL or ability to obtain CDL within four months of employment. ? Additional criteria as the Board may establish.
REPORTS TO: Transportation Supervisor
SUPERVISES: Bus Maintenance Assistants
JOB GOALS: To plan and perform duties essential to the effective operation of mechanical work for the Transportation Department of the DeSoto Parish School Board.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: ? Supervises, and schedule repairs and preventive maintenance for buses, vehicles, and fuel powered equipment. ? Conduct inspections of the buses and other school board owned vehicles. ? Examine vehicles and discuss with the Director of Operations the nature and extent of damages or malfunctions. ? Work on repair and recovery of buses before and after normal hours. ? Maintain a complete maintenance history on each bus. ? Requisition supplies, parts, and equipment as needed under the supervision of the Director of Operations. ? Plan work procedures and schedules for bus maintenance employees. ? Complete time and dispatch log. ? Maintain all tools and related equipment. ? Determines problems and repair buses to maintain safe and efficient transportation fleet. ? Repair air conditioning and heating units in vehicles. ? Assign personnel to keep shop clean and organized. ? Reports job-related injuries within 48 hours of work accident to the immediate supervisor. "Job-related injuries" include, but are not limited to, any accident or illness which involves loss of consciousness, restriction of work or motion, or medical treatment. ? Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as the Director of Operations may assign.

? Maintains confidentiality of all matters related to student and employee matters.
? Reports job-related injuries within 48 hours of a work accident to the immediate supervisor.
? Adheres to the DeSoto Parish School Board's Sexual Harassment Policy to be found at File: GAEAA.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve months
EVALUATION: Performance in this position will be evaluated at least once annually in accordance with Board Policy.
