Direct Support Professional

Direct Support Professional (DSP) works closely with the residents of WellCare Homes 7, who are developmentally disabled and present behavioral challenges. The DSP assists the residents in achieving and maintaining their individual health, hygiene, occupational, social, and emotional goals.
Responsibilities:
1. Transport residents to medical, dental, social activities, and other appointments.
2. Assist and/or provide residents direct care support in hygiene, grooming, bathing, toileting, dressing, feeding, medical, and dental needs.
3. Assist with coordination and implementation of residents? programming as stated in their Individual Program Plan (IPP), Individual Behavior Support Plan (IBSP) and Health Care Plan.
4. Provide assistance and supervision and training during community and recreational outings.
5. Monitor physical and emotional wellness of residents and immediately report changes in status.
6. Prepare meals and store food in compliance with all regulations and program outline.
7. Follow response procedures for all home emergencies, (medical, natural disaster, fire, and behavioral incidents).
8. Assist with maintenance and sanitation of home both inside and its surroundings.
9. Daily documentation and maintain files regarding residents? health, progress, and special incidents, as related to residents? IPP and IBSP, health, and behavioral programs and as outlined in Title 17, Title 22, and the WellCare Homes program design.
10. Safeguards and ensures client?s personal and incidental funds and records are accurate.
11. Assist in maintenance of administrative records, resident files, home inventories, and weekly schedules as needed.
12. Advocate on behalf of each resident; uphold respectful and efficient communication with each resident and all relevant parties. Understand organizations and support systems relating to each resident?s life.
13. Responsible for ensuring that any suspicion of or knowledge of suspected abuse is reported in accordance with the law and program policies "Mandated Reporter" (SOC 341).
14. Attend ALL required (mandatory) trainings and staff meetings.
15. Follow directives from the Administrator, Assistant Administrator and LDSPs.
Working Environment/Hazards
? Ability to lift 50 lbs and work in a variety of environments and settings.
? The employee is occasionally required to sit, bend, squat, kneel, crawl, climb
? Ability to work in a variety of environments and settings.
? Potential exposure to communicable diseases, blood-borne pathogens, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinical nursing environment.
? Interaction with residents who display aggressive and/or self-injurious behaviors.
Job Requirements:
1. Meet all requirements of Title 22 including but not limited to:
o 18 years of age.
o Must become an RBT within 12 months from date of hire or be either a QBMP, or an LPT, with 6 months prior experience providing direct care to individuals with developmental disabilities who have challenging behaviors.
o Complete orientation and on-the-job training within 32-hours of employment.
o Complete required staff training and minimum of 20 hours continuing education annually plus additionalfive (5) hours of competency-based continuing education in the areas of person-centered practices, positive behavior supports, trauma-informed care, and cultural competency with a total of twenty-five (25) hours of CEU.
o Receive a minimum of 16 hours of emergency intervention training.
o Must possess High School Diploma or GED.
o Complete a Health Screening with TB clearance one year prior to hiring or within 7 days upon hire.
o Have clearance through the DOJ/FBI fingerprinting and criminal record Live Scan.
o Complete/current CPR prior to providing any direct care assistance to the residents and First Aidtraining.
2. U.S. citizen, Permanent Resident, or alien authorized to work in the U.S with legal documentation.
3. Excellent communication skills; respectful and positive attitude toward residents, co-workers, contractors, and home visitors.
4. Complete DSP 1 and DSP 2 training or pass the challenge test within first year of employment.
5. Valid and current California driver?s license with clear driving record
